Precision You Can Carry

Stratis Bolt-Action Rifle

Precision You Can Carry

Meet the Stratis. Precision and carbon fiber, built into one bolt-action rifle. A lightened Watchtower Defense Tactical receiver, a free-floated Proof Research carbon fiber barrel and an Iota carbon fiber stock form the core, with a TriggerTech Special tuned to 1.25 lb and a custom-machined, self-timing muzzle brake.

Every Stratis is built and painted by one person. Bobby Keigans, Watchtower Defense design engineer and an award-winning Precision Rifle Series competitor, assembles each rifle himself, then paints the finish by hand. No pattern is repeated, so the rifle that leaves his bench is the only one like it.

The Stratis is in development and will deploy soon.

Feature

Lightened Receiver

Weight savings start at the foundation. The Stratis builds on a Watchtower Defense Tactical action with a lightened receiver and an integral lug, then carries the same idea through its carbon fiber barrel and stock.

Spiral-Fluted Bolt

The Stratis runs a spiral-fluted Watchtower Defense Tactical bolt. A roller cam cocking piece rides at the rear, and the firing pin assembly comes out for cleaning with no tools.

Pinned 20 MOA Rail

A pinned 20 MOA rail tops the Watchtower Defense Tactical action, ready for scope rings. Its 20 MOA slope tilts the scope down, which leaves more of the scope’s elevation travel for long-range shots.

Trigger Pull

The Stratis runs a TriggerTech Special tuned to 1.25 lb. The light pull breaks the shot with minimal finger pressure, so there is less to disturb your hold on the rifle.

Carbon Fiber Stock

The Iota stock is built from exposed carbon fiber twill, hand-laid and hand-finished. Custom machined pillars hold the action and bottom metal at their proper dimensions, which reduces stock fatigue and keeps the rifle accurate.

Carbon Fiber Barrel

A Proof Research carbon fiber barrel saves weight over a steel barrel of the same contour, so less weight hangs out front. Threaded 5/8×24 and made in multiple finished lengths, it is shown here at 22″ in a Sendero contour.

Self-Timing Brake

The custom-machined muzzle brake is matched to the barrel contour and self-timing, so it times without shims or crush washers. A hex opening at the muzzle end takes a removal tool: the brake comes off easily for suppressor mounting and goes back on correctly timed.

Less Weight

Lighter Where It Counts

Built for shooters who carry what they shoot, the Stratis saves weight at its core: a lightened Watchtower Defense Tactical receiver, a Proof Research carbon fiber barrel and an Iota carbon fiber stock.

22 Creedmoor

Flat, Fast, Low Recoil

DESIGNED FOR

Derrick Ratliff of Horizon Firearms took up the 22 Creedmoor wildcat in 2013 and built Horizon's first 22 Creedmoor rifles in early 2014, necking the 6.5 Creedmoor down to .224 for a flat, fast, low-recoil predator and varmint round. Hornady submitted it to SAAMI, which accepted it in January 2024.

WHY CHOOSE IT

Pick the 22 Creedmoor for coyotes and varmints, and for deer-size game where a .22 centerfire is legal. Hornady rates its 80 gr ELD-X at 3,285 fps from a 24-inch test barrel, and it drops just 31.1 in at 500 yd from a 200 yd zero, flatter than anything else in the line. It recoils the least of the six, well under a 6.5 Creedmoor, so follow-up shots and long sessions stay easy.

On the Stratis and Stratis Bravo it runs a free-floated 22-inch Proof Research carbon fiber barrel, 1:8 twist, capped with the self-timing muzzle brake, and recoil is mild.

Stratis FAQ

What is the Stratis?
The Stratis is a bolt-action precision rifle from Watchtower Defense of Tomball, Texas, custom-built and hand-painted by design engineer Bobby Keigans. It pairs a lightened Watchtower Defense Tactical receiver with a Proof Research carbon fiber barrel, an Iota carbon fiber stock, Hawkins Precision detachable bottom metal, a TriggerTech Special tuned to 1.25 lb and a custom-machined, self-timing muzzle brake. Its MSRP is coming soon.
Who builds the Stratis?
The Stratis is custom-built by Watchtower Defense design engineer Bobby Keigans, who builds every rifle in the line and personally paints each one, so no two finishes match. Keigans is an award-winning Precision Rifle Series (PRS) competitor: he was the top Production finisher at the 2021 Koenig-Ruger Precision Rifle Competition and first in Production in the 2021 ALTUS Long Range Challenge Series. Every rifle is built by someone who shoots at distance himself.
Is every Stratis unique?
Yes, every Stratis is one of a kind: Watchtower Defense design engineer Bobby Keigans custom-builds each rifle and paints it by hand, so no two look alike. Even two rifles in the same base color carry different patterns, so yours will not exactly match the rifles in the photos. The finish is part of what makes each rifle its own.
Should I choose the Stratis or the Stratis Bravo?
Choose the Stratis for a lighter stock: an Iota carbon fiber stock with Hawkins Precision bottom metal and flush-fit magazines. Choose the Stratis Bravo for adjustable fit: a KRG Bravo chassis with an adjustable cheek plate, length-of-pull spacers, an ARCA-ready forend and its own AICS-pattern magazine well. Both share a Watchtower Defense Tactical action, a Proof Research carbon fiber barrel, a TriggerTech Special tuned to 1.25 lb and a self-timing muzzle brake, and Bobby Keigans custom-builds and hand-paints every one.
Which calibers is the Stratis chambered in?
The Stratis is chambered in 22 Creedmoor, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, 7mm PRC and .308 Win with a 22″ barrel and a 1:8 twist, and in .300 PRC with a 24″ barrel and a 1:9 twist. Every chambering runs a Proof Research carbon fiber barrel, threaded 5/8×24, on the same long-action Watchtower Defense Tactical receiver.
What action is the Stratis built on?
The Stratis is built on a Watchtower Defense Tactical action with a lightened receiver, a spiral-fluted bolt, a firing pin assembly that comes out for cleaning without tools, a roller cam cocking piece, an integral lug and a pinned 20 MOA rail.
What barrel does the Stratis use?
The Stratis uses a Proof Research carbon fiber barrel, threaded 5/8×24 and made in multiple finished lengths. The barrel is free-floated, so the stock does not touch it ahead of the action and pressure on the forend does not shift the point of impact. A carbon fiber barrel weighs less than a steel barrel of the same contour, which keeps weight off the front of the rifle. The threaded muzzle carries the custom-machined, self-timing muzzle brake. Barrels are 22″ in 22 Creedmoor, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, 7mm PRC and .308 Win, and 24″ in .300 PRC.
Can I run a suppressor on the Stratis?
Yes, the Stratis can run a suppressor where it is legal for you to own and use one. The barrel is threaded 5/8×24, and the custom-machined, self-timing muzzle brake has a hex opening at the muzzle end for a removal tool, so it comes off for suppressor mounting. The self-timing brake goes back on correctly timed, without shims or crush washers. Check that your suppressor or its mount fits a 5/8×24 thread and is rated for your caliber, and follow federal, state and local law.
What trigger does the Stratis use?
The Stratis uses a TriggerTech Special, tuned to a 1.25 lb pull. A light pull needs little finger pressure to break the shot, which leaves less to disturb your hold and makes it easier to keep the rifle on your aim point. At long range, even a small movement at the rifle moves the point of impact a long way, so a light pull helps the shot land where you aimed.
What stock does the Stratis use?
The Stratis sits in an Iota carbon fiber stock. Custom machined pillars hold the action and bottom metal at their proper dimensions, which reduces stock fatigue and keeps the rifle accurate. Its M5 inlet takes M5-pattern detachable bottom metal. On the Stratis, that is Hawkins Precision bottom metal feeding Hawkins Precision flush-fit long-action magazines.
What magazines does the Stratis use?
The Stratis takes Hawkins Precision flush-fit detachable magazines, which seat in Hawkins Precision bottom metal in the Iota stock's M5 inlet. The rifle is a long action, and the flush magazine sits level with the bottom metal, so nothing hangs below the stock to catch on a pack or a rest.
Is the Stratis optic-ready?
Yes, the Stratis is optic-ready: its Watchtower Defense Tactical action carries a pinned 20 MOA rail for scope mounting. The 20 MOA rail tilts the optic down, so more of the scope's elevation travel is usable at long range. Without that built-in angle, a scope can run out of elevation adjustment before it reaches distant targets.
How much does the Stratis weigh?
The Stratis weighs 6.7 lb (107 oz). It saves weight at its core, with a lightened Watchtower Defense Tactical receiver, a Proof Research carbon fiber barrel and an Iota carbon fiber stock.
How do I buy a Stratis?
The Stratis is in development and will deploy soon. Every Watchtower Defense firearm sells through licensed FFL dealers, and there is no checkout on this site. Use our dealer locator to find one near you. Your dealer handles the transfer and any background check the law requires.
What finish does the Stratis have?
Every Stratis is hand-painted by Watchtower Defense design engineer Bobby Keigans, so each finish is one of a kind. The rifles shown use Tropic Thunder Camo and Westrider Camo base colors. Because each rifle is painted by hand, the pattern on yours will differ from the photos, and screens render color differently, so the color you see online may not exactly match the rifle in person.
